Gatsby's past was behind him from a long time ago, the green light was
Nick sees Tom again and comes to the conclusion that he's talking to a child
“They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.”
Nick raps things up with Jordan Baker
Nick indulges in himself believing to be an honest person
"So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past." just means that no matter how hard we try, we can't beat the greater current of the great ocean and are just along for the ride on our boats
