Chap. 4
What do you think Gatsby is trying to do by inviting Nick?
Why do you think that Gatsby left when Tom had arrived?
Well, in the beginning of chapter 1, the narrator starts talking about his "younger and vulnerable years". I think we are being introduced to Nick this way because once we meet the other characters, the author would like us, like readers, to actually see what the other characters are like and its easier to see it when you can compare to different subjects. Tom doesn's seem too happy with his life. Neither does Daisy. They both seem distant and like they are trying to hide something between them or trying to keep something between themselves. They know that in their own relationship there is something wrong. I believe Tom still cares for Daisy because he got really fired up when Myrtle wouldn't stop saying her name. He totally lost it and ended up breaking her nose. Gossip would spread so quickly about Daisy because her husband is rich and so she is married to him. Seeing that Tom has a mistress, perhaps Tom does not want a real thing with her so he is okay that a gossip like Daisy is catholic is going around so he does not have to divorce her because he isn't taking Myrtle serious. The point of introducing the old guy in the library is to illuminate Gatsby characteristic. The two girls at the party were against Jordan Baker in the golf tournament. They were rude about Jordan losing and making it obvious like she didn't know herself. I think Gatsby is trying to get along with Nick and have him invite his cousin Daisy because Gatsby really wants to see her again. I think that Gatsby left when Tom had arrived because he felt guilty that he wanted to see Daisy without Tom knowing and a bit jealous with madness that he was not the one Daisy got married with because of hi status.
ReplyDelete1) to compare the differences between two types of character.
ReplyDelete2) Tom seems to be a random guy who I think sees happiness in another way. while daisy doesnt seem to care about it but doesn't show happiness eaither.
1) I think tom doesnt care for anyone but himself and his point of view of hapiness.
2) Meryltz spills all the gossip about daisy because she may be jelouse of daisy and tom being together.
1) The point of introducing the guy in the libary is to explain how he wanst part of the party instead he was reading one of gatsby's book.
2) The two girls at the party ( lucille and cathrine) gossip about gatsby and who he is.
1) By inviting nick he is getting much closer to daisy.
2) I think gatsby left because he didnt feel the need to see tom the guy daisy married.
